Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has warned farming and fishing communities in Baga area of the state to avoid any form of collaboration with Boko Haram insurgents.
Speaking at the palace of the district Head in Baga, Ggovernor Zulum emphasized the importance of abiding by military regulations to maintain security in the area.
“I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military. While we support agricultural efforts, it is vital that our people remain law-abiding and follow the rules set by both the Nigerian military and the Borno State government,” Governor Zulum said. He condemned any collaboration with insurgents, calling it “unacceptable” and a direct threat to the region’s stability.
In addition to his security message, Governor Zulum inspected a significant 2,000-hectare solar-powered irrigation project in Baga, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity.
The project, which supports the cultivation of wheat and cassava, as gathered by WorldClass247News, is part of efforts to boost food security in the state and across Nigeria. Zulum described the solar irrigation system as a “game-changer” in agricultural production and self-sufficiency.
“This project will reduce food production costs and contribute to greater self-sufficiency,” Zulum noted, highlighting that similar initiatives are already underway in Damasak, Ngala, and other parts of the state. The governor reaffirmed his commitment to further investments in wheat and cassava production, sectors in which Borno State holds a comparative advantage. “After the wheat harvest, the entire 2,000 hectares will be used for cassava cultivation,” he added.
During the visit, Governor Zulum was warmly received by residents in Kukawa town, where he pledged to accelerate reconstruction efforts in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He also addressed troops at the 101 Special Forces Battalion, commending their courage and assuring them of the state government’s continued support.
