Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Saturday reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the Nigerian Army during a visit to troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade in Damboa, a front-line community in the state’s ongoing fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.
Addressing officers and soldiers at the military base, Zulum commended their “giant effort and supreme sacrifice” in protecting Borno’s citizens. The governor sympathized with the brigade over a recent insurgent attack that claimed the lives of several personnel, describing the incident as a “painful setback.”
“On behalf of the government and good people of Borno State, we are here in Damboa purposely to commiserate with you over the recent setback which claimed the lives of some of your colleagues,” Zulum said. He extended condolences to the families of the fallen troops and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
He praised the resilience and dedication of the soldiers, assuring them that the state would continue to provide all possible support. “We will do everything possible within the resources available to us to support your mission and vision to end the crisis,” he added.
The governor was received by Brigadier General Igwe Patrick Omokeh, Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade.
Zulum’s visit to Damboa was part of a wider tour of southern Borno communities. Earlier in the day, he met with grieving families in Chibok, where recent attacks resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property. He offered condolences and immediate relief to affected residents.
During the Chibok engagement, Zulum announced that the state government, in collaboration with federal authorities and security agencies, was intensifying efforts to protect vulnerable communities.
“We are here to offer our condolences over what happened these past days in the Chibok general area,” he said. “The situation is painful… but God willing, the issue of insecurity in Chibok will be resolved. We will provide a permanent solution and put an end to it.”
He urged residents to remain patient, commending their calmness and resilience despite persistent threats from insurgents.
