Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the immediate dissolution of the Borno State Executive Council, effectively ending the tenure of all serving commissioners in Borno State.
The decision, announced in an official statement, is seen as part of strategic preparations for the 2026 general elections. According to the governor, the move is intended to provide a level playing field for council members who may wish to contest elective positions.
Governor Zulum directed all affected commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026, to ensure continuity in governance and administrative stability.
In the statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, the governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing commissioners for their dedication and contributions to the development of the state.
Observers say the dissolution could pave the way for several former commissioners to declare interest in elective offices, potentially reshaping the political landscape in the state ahead of the elections.
No immediate replacements have been announced, but government activities are expected to continue under the supervision of Permanent Secretaries pending further directives.
