Citing heightened security concerns in the North East region of Nigeria, the Yobe state government has announced an outright ban on drone operation across the state.
The directive, conveyed through a press release by Brigadier General (retired) Dahiru Abdulsalam, Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, follows a recommendation from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, a military task force engaged in counter-insurgency efforts in the region.
The ban, which affects both commercial and recreational drone usage, stems from the “unfortunate use of commercial drones for breaching peace and security” within the North East Theatre of Operations.
Authorities have also raised alarms over the growing proliferation of drones for non-regulated purposes.
In the press release, the state government emphasized the importance of public compliance with the directive, urging individuals to desist from operating drones for any reason.
The Security Adviser assured residents of the Air Component’s continued commitment to monitoring and regulating aerial platform activities, including drones and aircraft, within the region. “This is to ensure the safety and security of all,” the statement concluded.
The development, as noticed by WorldClass247News, underscores ongoing efforts to safeguard the North East from security threats as military operations continue in the area.
