A 28-year-old woman was arrested on Friday after being found in possession of nearly 300 grams of cocaine hidden in her body, during a routine drug interdiction operation along the Moyale-Nairobi route.
The suspect, identified as Jane Njeri Muigai, was apprehended during a security stop on a Nairobi-bound bus along the Moyale-Isiolo highway.
The bust was part of a coordinated multi-agency crackdown targeting narcotics smuggling along the Northern Frontier corridor.
According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers became suspicious after Muigai exhibited nervous behavior during the inspection.
A subsequent body search conducted by female officers was said to have led to the discovery of 294 grams of cocaine concealed internally.
Muigai was immediately taken into custody and is being held at Moyale Police Station pending further investigations. Authorities have launched a probe into the origin and intended destination of the narcotics.
The DCI confirmed that the suspect will face drug trafficking charges in the coming days.
This arrest marks the latest in a series of operations aimed at disrupting drug trafficking routes between Kenya’s border towns and Nairobi, as law enforcement intensifies efforts to dismantle illicit drug networks across the region.
