The Adamawa State Government has announced the resignation of two commissioners and approved over N7 billion for infrastructure and social development projects across the state.
Those who stepped down are the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Felix Tangwami, and the Commissioner for Livestock and Aquaculture Development, Tijjani Maksha. Their resignations take immediate effect.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday after a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Kaletapwa George Farauta at the Government House in Yola.
Briefing journalists, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, James Iliya, said the resignations would allow the former commissioners to pursue elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The council also approved several projects targeting improvements in education, water supply, and humanitarian services. Iliya said N7,066,907.07 was approved for the renovation of examination halls, classrooms, offices, and fencing in selected primary and secondary schools across the state, aimed at enhancing the learning environment.
In the water sector, the council approved N459,694,685.85 for the supply and installation of a 20-kilometre water distribution pipeline in Mubi. Iliya noted that the town has lacked a reliable water supply since 1989, exposing residents to waterborne diseases such as cholera.
Additionally, the council ratified N147,958,358.97 for the development of a water supply network at the newly constructed Yola Main Market in Yola South.
Another N149,707,497.00 was approved for the upgrade of an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Girei to improve living conditions for displaced persons.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Umar Garba-Pella, and Commissioner for Water Resources, Ayuba Audu Tanko, said the approvals align with the government’s policy of improving citizens’ welfare.
The council also raised concerns over poor compliance with the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise, urging residents to take proactive steps to improve hygiene and public health.
