Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has distanced himself from all political aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that he has not endorsed any candidate for any elective position.
The governor’s clarification follows growing speculation that he had backed certain contenders vying for positions in the state assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship races.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Yola, Fintiri stressed that leadership decisions must remain solely in the hands of the electorate. He urged aspirants to depend on grassroots support and divine guidance rather than perceived political endorsements.
“The mandate belongs to the people,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining neutrality throughout the political process.
Fintiri also assured party members of a level playing field, emphasizing transparency and inclusiveness in the selection process. He disclosed that the party is considering adopting direct primaries to enhance participation and ensure fairness among contenders.
Highlighting immediate priorities, the governor called for peaceful and orderly conduct of ward, local government, and state congresses. He noted that credible internal processes are vital for fostering unity and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
The position was reiterated during the high-level meeting, which brought together key stakeholders and governorship hopefuls to deliberate on the party’s direction.
Fintiri further pledged to steer the party through its critical phases without controversy, underscoring his commitment to unity and a transparent electoral process.
