Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The rescue operation followed credible intelligence received by troops and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force deployed in Tsafe late Saturday, August 8, regarding the abduction of commuters travelling through the Magazu area of the local government.

According to a statement by the Joint Task Force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and made contact with the terrorists as they were moving the victims to an undisclosed destination.

The troops engaged the terrorists with effective fire, forcing them to abandon the abducted passengers and flee into nearby bushes.

The security personnel subsequently secured the area and rescued all 33 victims without any casualties. Troops have also commenced further operations in the area to track the fleeing terrorists.

Signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Theatre Commander, commended the troops for their prompt response and professionalism, which ensured the safe recovery of the passengers.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting civilians, restricting the activities of terrorists and securing major transportation routes across the North-West.

The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies about the activities and movements of terrorists and other criminal elements.
