Chairman of the Taraba State Sports Council, Barrister Jime Yongo, has commended the Taraba State House of Assembly and Governor Agbu Kefas for the recent passage and signing of the Sports Commission Bill into law.
Speaking with journalists in Asaba, Delta state, Yongo described the legislation as a major milestone in the growth and professionalization of sports in the state.
“The unanimous support of the House and the swift assent by Governor Kefas reflect a deep commitment to the future of sports in Taraba,” Yongo stated.
He also expressed gratitude to the governor for entrusting him with the responsibility to lead the Sports Council, noting that the administration’s proactive approach to youth and sports development has reinvigorated the sector.
“I am always ready to give my all to the development of sports in Taraba State,” he said. “I am proud to work under the leadership of a governor who genuinely supports the growth of youth and sports.”
Yongo highlighted Taraba State’s participation in recent national sporting events including the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and the ongoing National Youth Games — as clear indicators of the state’s renewed momentum in competitive sports.
Despite these strides, he emphasized that the development of sports should not be left to the government alone.
He called on private sector organizations and non-governmental bodies to support grassroots initiatives and sponsor sporting programs across the state.
Reaffirming the Sports Council’s commitment to progress, Yongo urged continuous collaboration among stakeholders to harness the full potential of Taraba’s youth through structured investments and sustainable development in the sports sector.
