The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has extended its congratulations to Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida following his appointment as the Board Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
In a letter dated April 3, 2025, and signed by SWAN Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, the association’s President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, described Kida’s appointment as a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the oil and gas sector.
Kida, who also serves as the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), has had a distinguished career in the oil and gas industry, holding key positions and making significant impacts.
“Before assuming the role of NNPCL Board Chairman, you had already made notable achievements in the sector while holding various leadership positions,” the SWAN letter read in part. “What distinguishes you is your unwavering commitment to development and your dedication to making a positive impact. You truly deserve this recognition.”
The association further expressed optimism that Kida’s influence in both the oil and gas industry and the sports sector would yield positive outcomes, particularly in driving Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives toward Nigerian sports development.
“Your appointment may be within the oil and gas industry, but it presents a significant opportunity to enhance sports development in Nigeria. The NNPCL has the capacity to support the sporting industry through its CSR programs, which can benefit numerous young people across the country,” the statement added.
In a separate development, SWAN has expressed its condolences to the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) following the passing of its President, Alhaji Abdullahi Saidu.
In a condolence message sent to the NTF Board, SWAN President Benjamin, through Secretary-General Okonkwo, conveyed deep sorrow over Saidu’s demise and extended sympathies to his family and the entire taekwondo community.
