The Borno State Police Command has recorded another security breakthrough with the recovery of a concealed cache of 912 rounds of ammunition in Maiduguri.
The discovery was made on January 4 at about 2:00 p.m. when operatives of the Lamisula Police Division, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a search operation in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of the state capital.
Police sources said the Department of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was immediately deployed to the location after the ammunition was uncovered.
The area was subsequently cordoned off to prevent any threat to public safety.
A total of 912 rounds of B32 API-type ammunition, calibre 7.62 x 51mm, were safely recovered during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Naziru Abdulmajid, confirmed that the recovered ammunition has been secured, while investigations are ongoing to ascertain its source and intended use.
He added that efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible for hiding the ammunition.
Abdulmajid commended members of the public for their timely and useful information, describing it as critical to the success of the operation.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious movements or activities within their communities.
The Police Command advised the public to report emergencies through its contact lines: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
