Police Rescue Kidnap Victims, Arrest Eight Suspects, Recover Arms in Nationwide Operations

The Nigeria Police Force has rescued two kidnapped victims, arrested eight suspects, and recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during a series of coordinated, intelligence led operations across Edo, Delta, Katsina, and Adamawa States.

In Edo State, on June 26, 2025, police operatives, working in collaboration with local vigilante groups, rescued two individuals, Godday Irieude and Wisdom Emeka, who were abducted from their farm in the Ewatto area at about 1:00 a.m. The kidnappers reportedly engaged the police in a gun battle but fled with gunshot injuries, leaving the victims unharmed.

In Delta State, police operatives raided a residence in Mosogar, arresting two suspected cultists, Koko Josh, 29, and Asomugha Clinton, 27. 

A search of the premises, according to the police, led to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of ammunition, two locally made guns, eight live cartridges, mobile phones, a laptop, and fetish items.

Follow up investigations, was also announced to have resulted in the arrest of two more suspects, Anthony Kelvin, 26, and Gift Amotsuka, 25, all alleged members of the Aiye Confraternity.

In a separate operation in Okpanam, Delta State, police arrested Ekene Chroma, 36, and Okafor Jonathan, 18, who were found with two English-made single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges. Investigations indicate they were involved in illegal arms dealing and acted as suppliers for wanted criminals.

In Katsina State, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) apprehended Yunusa Ishaku, 40, in Funtua, with two stolen vehicles a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Camry. 

The suspect confessed to belonging to a nationwide vehicle theft syndicate transporting stolen cars from cities like Abuja and Jos to Niger Republic. He also disclosed the locations of three additional stolen vehicles in Zamfara and Bauchi States.

Separately, in Adamawa State, police arrested Alhaji Iya Bima, 52, from Kem Shithem LGA, in possession of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 50 rounds of live ammunition. Further interrogation led to the recovery of another AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and additional rounds of ammunition.

All suspects, according to the Force headquarters. will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reaffirmed the force’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or dedicated emergency lines.
