Operatives of the Delta State Police Command Raiders Squad have arrested a suspected illegal firearm fabricator and recovered several locally manufactured guns along with equipment used for producing firearms.
The spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a statement made available to Galaxy News. According to him, the operation was carried out at Emuhu community in Ika South Local Government Area of the state by a team led by the Raiders Commander, Superintendent of Police Akanya Agbogha.
Police said the suspect, identified as 59-year-old Friday Ojei, was apprehended during the raid. A search conducted at his premises led to the recovery of six locally fabricated firearms, as well as welding and drilling machines and iron plates believed to have been used in the production of the weapons.
The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected illegal firearm production network.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, commended the professionalism and vigilance of the operatives involved in the operation.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that can assist in tackling crime across the state.
