The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal killing of a 35-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator, Abbas Yuguda, in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the command, the attack occurred on March 22, 2025, as the victim was heading home from his business premises.
Armed assailants were said to have ambushed him, inflicting severe head injuries and leaving him in a pool of blood.
“Police operatives from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly, rushing the victim to Cottage Hospital in Mayo-Belwa. However, despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment”the command said.
Following the attack, an angry mob, were also confirmed to have trailed one of the suspected assailants, identified as Umar SNU, and subjected him to mob action before police intervened and rescued him. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and is currently assisting with investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has strongly condemned the killing, vowing a thorough and discreet investigation to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice. He also warned against mob justice, urging residents to allow the law to take its course.
The police command has called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
