In a decisive move to restore peace and prevent further communal clashes in the Ifon-Ilobu-Erin Osun areas, Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced stringent security measures in collaboration with top security agencies in Osun State.
At a high-level security meeting, Governor Adeleke and service commanders from various security outfits adopted a series of operational plans aimed at permanently ending the recurring conflicts in the affected communities.
As part of efforts to enforce peace, the governor held a closed-door session with traditional rulers and community leaders, issuing a stern warning that any further violence would attract severe consequences, including possible suspension of traditional rulers.
The government outlined several immediate actions to curb further violence, among which include,deployment of a Joint Task Force with full logistical support to maintain law and order, interrogation of key ringleaders from the warring communities and mandating them to sign a peace agreement.
Others measures are, arrests and Prosecution of those responsible for inciting violence, and cybercrime crackdown on individuals spreading old videos and misinformation to fuel further conflict.
Governor Adeleke further raised concerns about what he termed “other security threats” in the state, accusing opposition elements of attempting to destabilize Osun by inciting conflicts in motor parks, organizing fake local government workers’ protests, and sponsoring hoodlum-led demonstrations under the guise of teachers’ applicants.
While commending security agencies for their dedication, the governor urged them to swiftly implement the agreed resolutions. He assured them of his administration’s full support in all efforts to maintain peace.
Security commanders, including representatives from the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Defence Corps, Immigration Service, and the Amotekun Security Service, pledged their commitment to enforcing the new measures and restoring lasting peace to the affected areas.
