The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially reactivated the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) nationwide, rolling out a revamped digital platform designed to streamline the process and reinforce national security.
Announced on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the initiative follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
The updated system is now accessible through possap.gov.ng, offering a user-friendly and secure interface for motorists seeking to regularize factory-fitted tinted windows.
The move comes in response to growing public concerns over the harassment of drivers with tinted vehicles, which have increasingly become standard in modern automobile design.
Authorities say the reactivation will ensure a clear and transparent process while addressing the risks associated with the misuse of tinted vehicles in crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and fraudulent “one-chance” operations.
“The reintroduction of the permit system is a strategic effort to separate legitimate users such as individuals with medical needs or security personnel from those exploiting tinted windows for criminal purposes,” the police statement read.
Under the new system, applicants are required to verify their identity using their National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), with biometric data and background checks included in the process. Approved permits will be issued digitally with QR codes, and processing is expected to take no more than 72 hours.
A 30-day grace period, effective May 1, 2025, has been approved for compliance, after which enforcement will begin. The police also warned officers against extortion or misconduct during implementation, stating that any violations will be met with strict disciplinary action.
Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to technological innovation and public accountability, IGP Egbetokun called on Nigerians to support the initiative for safer roads and enhanced public trust in law enforcement.
