A convoy transporting Mali’s Minister of Environment, Doumbia Mariam Tangara, was ambushed early this morning on the Kati-Soribougou road, leaving one person dead and ten others injured.
According to security sources, heavily armed assailants launched the attack as the minister’s convoy traveled to an official engagement.
While Minister Tangara emerged unscathed, the assault damaged two vehicles and heightened concerns over the security of government officials in Mali.
Malian security forces responded swiftly, securing the area and launching an investigation to determine the perpetrators.
At the time of filing this report, no group has claimed responsibility, though similar attacks have been linked to militant organizations operating in the region.
Authorities have vowed to intensify security measures as instability continues to challenge the West African nation.
