…As Chief Hanny Woko Calls for End to Hostility in Rivers
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of the people, underscoring the revitalization of the Rumuodomaya Fire Service Sub-Station as a key step in that direction.
Speaking at the inauguration of the facility in Obio/Akpor local government council on Friday, Governor Fubara expressed confidence that the upgraded fire station will ensure a swift response to emergencies, thereby safeguarding lives and property in Rumuodomaya and surrounding communities.
The Governor emphasized that the station is the third fire service facility unveiled in recent days, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to public safety.
“I feel very happy to stand before you and showcase another milestone in our efforts to prioritize the interests of our people,” Governor Fubara said. “When we unveiled the remodeled headquarters of the Rivers State Fire Service, I mentioned that two sub-stations were also part of the plan. Yesterday, we inaugurated the Borokiri sub-station, and today, we are here for this one. Our primary responsibility in governance is to protect lives and property.”
Governor Fubara praised the people of Obio/Akpor for their continued support and assured Rivers residents that his government would remain focused on delivering impactful projects.
“We can feel your support, and we deeply appreciate it,” he said. “Rivers people have continued to stand by us, believing in the truth and justice of our cause. We will keep working to improve lives and advance the state.”
Inaugurating the fire station, elder statesman Chief Hanny Woko praised Governor Fubara for prioritizing the safety of Rivers residents.
“A state without a functional fire service is a failed state because its citizens would be left at the mercy of fate during fire incidents,” Woko said. “This project is a testament to the Governor’s genuine love for the people, particularly the Ikwerre community and Rivers State as a whole.”
Commending Governor Fubara for staying focused on governance despite political distractions, Woko urged an end to hostilities in Rivers State.
“We must borrow a leaf from states like Lagos, where governance continues without friction. Every conflict should have an end. Rivers State has often been in the news for negative reasons, and that must stop,” he stated.
Woko also called for fairness in political leadership, emphasizing that Ikwerre people had held the governorship for 16 uninterrupted years and should support other ethnic groups, including the Ijaw, to complete their rightful tenure.
“Equity and fairness demand that we allow the Ijaw ethnic group to serve out their tenure. Governor Fubara has our full support,” he added.
Rivers State Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Samuel Anya, explained that the Rumuodomaya Fire Service Sub-Station was abandoned after its construction under former Governor Chibuike Amaechi. Governor Fubara, he said, ensured its revival by rehabilitating the structures and equipping the station with 54 offices, staff quarters, brand-new fire trucks, and a 45,000-litre water tank.
