Gombe State has entered a strategic partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to improve maternal and child healthcare, marking a major step toward reducing preventable deaths and strengthening health services.
The collaboration was highlighted on Wednesday when Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya welcomed a high-level delegation from both organizations at the Government House.
Addressing the meeting, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the healthcare sector through global partnerships.
“Maternal and child health remains a top priority for us. This partnership will accelerate progress in reducing maternal mortality and improving healthcare delivery in Gombe State,” Governor Yahaya stated.
To ensure the initiative’s success, the governor assigned Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau, who also chairs the Task Force on Primary Health Care, alongside Health Commissioner Dr. Habu Dahiru and other relevant ministries and agencies, to collaborate with the visiting delegation and develop a tailored intervention framework.
Representing Bloomberg Philanthropies were Dr. Neena Prasad, Lead for Maternal and Reproductive Health, and Samantha Lobis, Senior Advisor on Maternal Health.
The partnership is expected to deliver lasting improvements in maternal and child healthcare, reinforcing the government’s commitment to saving lives and strengthening health institutions in Gombe State.
