Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following renewed violent attacks and disturbances in several communities within the area.
The directive, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Sunday as part of measures by the Adamawa State Government to restore peace and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Governor Fintiri described the recent disturbances as unacceptable, warning that the government would not tolerate acts capable of threatening public safety.
“Government views these disturbances as unacceptable and has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly,” the governor said.
He added that anyone or group found violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The governor also directed security agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the curfew and maintain law and order across the affected communities.
Residents of Lamurde were urged to comply fully with the directive and assist security operatives by providing useful information that could help restore peace in the area.
Fintiri reiterated the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that necessary measures would continue to be taken to ensure the safety of citizens.
“The government will not condone acts of violence and will take all necessary steps to restore peace and order,” he said, while appealing to residents to cooperate with authorities to return normalcy to the area.
The curfew will remain in force until further notice, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.
