Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have foiled a planned kidnapping and armed attack in Byazhin Forest, Kubwa, recovering an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition during a coordinated operation.
According to the police, the operation was launched following credible intelligence from the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) of Force Headquarters, which revealed that a notorious bandit leader identified as Idrisa, popularly known as “Mai Duna,” had finalized plans to attack several village settlements around the Byazhin forest area.
Acting on the intelligence, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command deployed tactical teams on October 10, 2025, at about 9:00 p.m. to mount an ambush along suspected infiltration routes.
At around 1:00 a.m. on October 11, a large group of armed bandits was sighted advancing in two groups. A gun battle ensued and lasted approximately 20 minutes. Despite heavy gunfire, the police operatives overpowered the attackers, forcing them to retreat into the forest with gunshot wounds.
Security was further reinforced with additional police and military units securing the perimeter and blocking potential escape routes.
A subsequent search of the scene, according to the police, led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with a defaced serial number, one magazine, and thirty rounds of live 7.6mm ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, commended the bravery and professionalism of the security operatives, noting that their swift response averted what could have been a major security breach.
He also directed all medical facilities in the FCT and neighboring states to immediately report anyone presenting with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.
