The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a major anti-smuggling breakthrough following the interception of arms and other prohibited goods valued at over N3.22 billion in the Oyo–Osun Area Command.

Speaking at a press briefing in Ibadan, Acting Area Comptroller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Adewole, said the seizures were achieved through intensified intelligence-led enforcement operations, surveillance, and coordinated patrols across the command’s jurisdiction.

According to him, three pump-action rifles suspected to have been illegally brought into the country were among the most significant recoveries. Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the arms, while investigations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider smuggling network.

Other confiscated items include 1,537 bags of foreign rice, used clothing, used tyres, pharmaceutical products, cannabis sativa, tramadol, premium motor spirit, and several vehicles allegedly used in transporting the contraband.

The Customs Command said the operation underscores its continued commitment to disrupting smuggling activities through intelligence-driven enforcement and collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard Nigeria’s borders and national security.
