The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of a casual worker at the Gombe Government House and the arrest of a suspect in connection with the incident.
Police said the incident occurred on December 26, 2025, when a distress call was received at about 3:50 p.m. reporting that a male adult, identified as Mallam Umar, also known as “Baba Usama,” was found unconscious within the Government House premises. The deceased was a casual staff member employed as a borehole operator.
He was immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His body was subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, visited the scene and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
According to the police, preliminary findings, including a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage within the Government House, indicated that the deceased was assaulted before his death.
Further investigations led to the identification of a 19-year-old casual watchman, Shuaibu Adamu, also known as “Yaya Mama,” who is attached to a construction company handling projects at the Government House, as the prime suspect.
The suspect was said to have fled the scene following the incident.
Police operatives later tracked and arrested the suspect at about 11:00 p.m. on the same day at his hideout in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe. During preliminary interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the death. The police have assured the public that the case will be diligently investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Gombe State Police Command also reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety within government facilities and to delivering justice in the matter.
