Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a notorious kidnapping suspect during a security operation in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The arrest was announced in a statement released on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad.
He said the operation, carried out under Operation Zafin Wuta, led to the capture of Umar Musa Geyi on 22 November 2025 at Jandei-Kulamu in Wukari.
According to the Army, Geyi had long been on the security watchlist and is believed to be a key member of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for multiple abductions in the region.
Preliminary investigations, according to the troops, have reportedly linked him to the 13 November 2025 kidnapping of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei-Kulala area, who remains in captivity.
Troops allegedly intercepted Geyi while he was on a phone call in which he confirmed that the victim was still being held and demanded a N20 million ransom.
The suspect is currently in military custody as efforts intensify to locate the victim and secure his release.
Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa,praised the troops for their swift and coordinated response.
He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace in Taraba State, urging residents to stay vigilant and share credible information with security agencies.
