In a major breakthrough against banditry, Nigerian Army troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA have captured Kachallah Hassan Nabamamu, a notorious bandit leader responsible for terrorizing communities in Zamfara State.

The operation, carried out on Thursday at Hegin Mahe, Ruwan Bore in Mada town, Gusau Local Government Council followed a well-planned ambush.

A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the neutralization of several bandits, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Despite attempting to flee into nearby homes, Nabamamu was pursued and apprehended alive by the troops.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the arrest on Friday, calling it a significant victory in the fight against banditry.

“For years, Nabamamu led deadly attacks, kidnappings, and extortion that made life unbearable for communities in Zamfara,” Makama said.

However, shortly after his capture, his gang led by Bakin Malam launched reprisal attacks on Chediya, Bamamu, and Makera villages, threatening to displace residents if Nabamamu was not released. The military swiftly responded, repelling the attackers and restoring calm to the area.

Military sources revealed that Nabamamu, originally from Tsafe, started as an armed robber before becoming one of Zamfara’s most feared bandit leaders.

He reportedly commanded over 100 heavily armed fighters and was involved in weapons trafficking, kidnapping, and extortion.

Authorities believe his arrest will significantly weaken bandit activities in Zamfara and neighboring states.
