The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, has expressed grave concern over the increasing cases of reckless and dangerous driving by some motorists across the state.
The Commissioner, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said practices such as excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, driving while using mobile phones and disregard for traffic regulations were putting the lives of motorists, passengers and other road users at risk.
Hassan warned that the Police Command would deal decisively with motorists who violate traffic laws, stressing that road safety remains a collective responsibility.
To strengthen enforcement, the Commissioner has directed the Traffic Unit and Tactical Teams of the Command to intensify patrols and monitoring of roads across the state, while arresting motorists found contravening traffic rules and regulations.
He further urged drivers to strictly obey traffic laws and regulations, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and exercise maximum caution while using the roads.
The Commissioner also advised motorists to prioritise the safety of other road users, noting that reckless driving could result in avoidable deaths, injuries and destruction of property.
He warned that the Command would not hesitate to prosecute anyone found violating traffic laws, urging members of the public to cooperate with the Police and other relevant agencies in promoting safer roads across Adamawa State
