Benue state has officially unveil a new anthem and symbols, marking a significant step in promoting cultural identity, unity, and development.
Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, was observed to have led the historic event which took place weekend at Nnam hotel, in Makurdi, the state capital, emphasizing the importance of the new symbols in Shaping the state’s future.
Alia highlighted that the new anthem and symbols were carefully selected through a rigorous and transparent process to reflect the shared values and rich heritage of the Benue people.
He commended the selection committee for their dedication, ensuring that the symbols truly represent the state’s cultural essence.
To give legal backing to the new symbols, the governor announced plans to send an executive bill to the Benue State House of Assembly.
He underscored that these symbols would not only foster a sense of belonging among citizens but also serve as tools for attracting investors and tourists to the state.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to development, the governor outlined ongoing efforts in infrastructure, economic growth, healthcare, and education.
He noted that the government had already begun recruiting 9,700 new teachers to strengthen the education system.
Additionally to that, he assured residents of his resolve to address security challenges and facilitate the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes.
The Chairman of the State Symbols Screening Committee, retired Justice Augustine Utsaha, expressed gratitude to the governor for entrusting the committee with the responsibility.
He acknowledged that defining a common identity for Benue had been long overdue and praised the team for their diligence in screening 119 entries to select the final symbols.
Shedding light on the selection process, the committee’s secretary, Chief Solomon Iorpev, revealed that the new state anthem was composed from the contributions of five finalists, ensuring that it genuinely represents the spirit and aspirations of Benue people.
The governor, urged the citizens to embrace the new symbols with pride, urging collective efforts to build a secure, developed, and prosperous Benue State for future generation.
