The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 33 suspects in a coordinated intelligence-led operation targeting criminal hideouts across Yola South and Girei local government areas.
The operation, conducted on June 27 by Divisional Police Officers under the Yola Area Command and coordinated by the Area Commander, Yola, formed part of the command’s ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and improve security across the state.
According to the police, the raids were carried out at identified criminal hotspots, including Bamgel Mafias Quarters, Yolde Pate Junction/New Road, the area behind LCCN Church, Shagari Phase II, Sabon Fegi, Unguwan Burauba, Mbamoi, Hayin Gada, Anguwan Tsamiya, Anguwan Fulani, Sokoto Street, and Yola Market.
The command said the operation resulted in the arrest of 33 suspects allegedly involved in Shilla gangsterism, drug-related offences, and other criminal activities.
Items recovered during the raids included a cutlass, a knife, an antelope horn, 10 razor blades, suspected banned substances, and dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The police said all exhibits have been documented and will be tendered as evidence during prosecution.
According to the command, the suspects are currently undergoing screening and profiling. Those found culpable will be arraigned in court, while investigations continue to determine their possible involvement in other criminal offences.
The Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, commended officers who participated in the operation for their professionalism and dedication. He directed that similar intelligence-driven raids be sustained across the state to deny criminal elements safe havens.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and protecting lives and property in Adamawa State. He also appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace, law, and order across the state.
