The Southwest Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for selecting Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as the venue for its upcoming National Convention scheduled for November 2025.
In a statement signed by Engineer Kamoru Toyese Ajisafe Esq., National Vice Chairman (Southwest), the zone expressed deep appreciation to the NEC, National Working Committee (NWC), Board of Trustees (BoT), and the PDP Governors’ Forum for what it described as a unanimous and strategic decision.
According to the statement, the selection of Ibadan a city widely regarded as the political heartbeat of the Southwest is both a recognition of the zone’s critical role within the party and a vote of confidence in its organizational capacity.
“This gesture is not only a testament to the strategic relevance of the Southwest in the overall architecture of our great party, but also a clear indication of the confidence reposed in the region to deliver on national assignments with distinction,” the statement read.
The zonal leadership assured the national body and all party stakeholders that the Southwest is fully prepared to deliver a peaceful, well-organized, and impactful convention that will reflect the PDP’s democratic values and organizational excellence.
The statement also reaffirmed the zone’s loyalty and commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP, emphasizing that the Southwest remains a formidable stronghold of the party.
“As we prepare to host delegates and leaders from across the country, we stand united in our resolve to deepen democratic values, promote internal cohesion, and work towards electoral victory in future elections,” Ajisafe added.
The zone extended special gratitude to Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagum, and other party leaders for what it described as a “rare privilege” and a show of trust in the region’s political and administrative maturity.
