Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated N300 million to support victims of the recent devastating flood in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
Governor Zulum announced the donation during a condolence visit to his Niger State counterpart, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, at the Government House in Minna.
He expressed sympathy over the disaster, which claimed several lives and caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods.
“This donation is to complement the efforts of the Niger State Government in managing the aftermath of the flood,” Zulum said.
Adding that. “on behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the people of Niger over this unfortunate incident.”
The Borno governor also emphasized the urgent need for greater collaboration among the subs national governments to address the increasing impact of climate change, which he said contributes to such recurring disasters.
In response, Governor Bago expressed heartfelt appreciation, describing Zulum’s gesture as timely and compassionate.
“This is a great show of love and solidarity,” Bago said. “We assure you that the funds will be properly utilized to bring much-needed relief to the victims. We are also ramping up advocacy efforts to encourage people to relocate from flood-prone areas.”
In a separate engagement, Governor Zulum led a delegation to Yola to commiserate with the Government and people of Adamawa State over the death of Professor Jibril Aminu, a renowned academic, former minister, and elder statesman.
Describing Professor Aminu as a “son of Borno” and a national figure whose legacy in education and public service remains enduring, Zulum praised his immense contributions to Nigeria’s development.
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, received the delegation and thanked Zulum for the visit, describing Professor Aminu’s death as a profound loss not only to Adamawa but to the nation as a whole.
