Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has pledged N300 million to support the families of soldiers who lost their lives in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.
The announcement was made during the 2025 Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Operation Desert Sanity 2 Medal Parade in N’Djamena, Chad.
Governor Zulum revealed that the funds would be channeled through the “Tribute to Our Troops Charity Foundation,” a platform designed to honor fallen heroes, celebrate active servicemen and women, and provide support to their families.
“The Chief of Defence Staff has established a foundation to focus on the welfare of families of deceased soldiers and those wounded in action,” Zulum said.
Adding that , “this initiative is the least we can do to honor their sacrifices. They have paid the ultimate price to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, and we remain committed to supporting them.”
Acknowledging the critical role of Borno State in combating insurgency, the governor affirmed the state’s full backing of the foundation. “If any state in Nigeria should lead in supporting this cause, it is Borno,” he emphasized.
Governor Zulum also noted significant progress in reducing insurgency in the North East but called on the military to intensify efforts to eliminate the remaining elements of Boko Haram in the Lake Chad region.
The MNJTF medal parade, an event initiated in 2017, recognizes troops for their dedication and sacrifices in combating insurgency across the Lake Chad Basin.
Zulum extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to enhancing security across the country. “The President, as Commander-in-Chief, has provided the necessary direction and motivation to ensure lasting peace in Nigeria,” he stated.
The donation, as observed by the WorldClass247News, highlights Governor Zulum’s continued commitment to supporting the military and addressing the impact of insurgency on affected families.
