Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, of Borno state, has donated N100 million to support the families of soldiers killed in action and those wounded while combating insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast.
The donation was announced during an Eid El-Kabir luncheon held on Saturday at Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri. The event was jointly hosted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar.
Governor Zulum presented a cheque of N100 million to the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdussalam Abubakar.
He stated that each wounded soldier would receive N500,000, while the remaining funds would be distributed to families of those who paid the ultimate price in the ongoing conflict.
Present at the event were senior military officials including Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and the Force Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Godwin Mutkut.
Commending the troops for their bravery, Zulum acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Nigerian Armed Forces in restoring peace to the region.
“Your commitment on the frontlines, often under extreme conditions and far from your families, is not lost on us,” Zulum said. “We remain eternally grateful for your service and will never take your sacrifices for granted.”
He reiterated his administration’s steadfast support for the military and pledged continued collaboration in efforts to defeat insurgency and rebuild communities affected by the conflict.
