Borno State governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned the recent wave of deadly attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents across multiple communities in the state.
The attacks, which struck locations including the Maiduguri-Damboa Road, Marte, Chibok, Gwoza, and Kala Balge, have resulted in the deaths of several civilians, security personnel, and education workers.
Among those killed were two staff members of the Damboa Local Education Authority, who lost their lives on May 12 in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion while en route to Maiduguri for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) examination.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, governor Zulum extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Federal Government and security agencies to confront the long-running insurgency.
“These acts of terror are deeply condemnable,” Zulum said. “The tragic loss of our education staff, gallant troops, and innocent civilians is a painful reminder of the challenges we continue to face.”
The governor emphasized that the recent escalation in violence would not weaken his government’s resolve, pledging continued support to the military and civilian security groups working to restore peace.
He also recalled a recent visit to Gwoza, where he met with military personnel and members of the Izge community as part of broader efforts to strengthen local resilience and improve security infrastructure.
“The recent surge in attacks will not deter our resolve,” Zulum stated. “I urge the people of Borno to remain resilient and prayerful. This is a partial eclipse — and we shall overcome it, Insha Allah.”
