Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has condemned an attack at a mosque in Gomboru Market, Maiduguri, that left five people dead and 35 others injured on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred during Maghrib prayers when a suspected attacker reportedly detonated an explosive device inside the mosque.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor described the attack as “utterly condemnable, barbaric and inhumane,” stressing that targeting a place of worship violates its sanctity.
Governor Zulum expressed condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of those who lost their lives, as well as the speedy recovery of the injured.
He called for heightened vigilance and strengthened security measures around places of worship and public areas, particularly during the festive period.
The governor also assured residents that the state government has put adequate security measures in place to prevent further incidents during and beyond the festivities.
