Borno state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has assigned portfolios to nine newly sworn-in commissioners following their screening and confirmation by the Borno State House of Assembly.
The governor also approved the creation of a new Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, a move aimed at strengthening governance, accelerating post-conflict recovery efforts and driving economic growth across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Bukar Tijani, the newly appointed commissioners have been assigned to various ministries.
Under the new postings, Hon. Satumari Abdulaziz Samaila will oversee the Ministry of Inter-Governmental Affairs and Special Duties, while Babagana Malarima has been assigned to the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Hon. Maina Yaumi will head the newly established Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
Others are Engr. Tijjani Alkali Goni, who takes charge of the Ministry of Water Resources; Arch. Isa Garba Haladu, assigned to the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement; and Engr. Mohammed Habib, who will serve as Commissioner for Environment.
Also appointed are Engr. Dr. Bawu Musami as Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ibrahim Hala Hassan as Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Tourism, and Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe as Commissioner for Works and Housing.
The statement noted that all the commissioners are to assume duties in their respective ministries with immediate effect.
Governor Zulum urged the commissioners to recommit themselves to serving the people of Borno state and to intensify efforts towards the effective implementation of the administration’s policies and programmes as the government enters the final phase of its tenure.
He also called on the commissioners to work closely with permanent secretaries, directors and other civil servants to ensure efficient service delivery and enable residents of the state to enjoy greater dividends of democracy.
The appointments and restructuring, including the creation of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, are expected to bolster the administration’s efforts in governance, development planning and economic transformation.
