The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has officially launched its campaign for the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election, with its candidate, Paul Chukwuma, and running mate, Uzu Okagbue, promising to restore security, transparency, and economic vibrancy to the state.
The campaign flag-off, themed “Joy is Coming”, began on Saturday with a colourful road show from Amawbia Bridge, near Awka, to Washington Grammar School, Onitsha. Party members, supporters, tricycle operators, and residents lined the streets, singing the campaign’s theme song.
Also present was the party’s candidate for the Onitsha North 1 constituency by-election, scheduled for August 16, Njideka Ndiwe. The party said the rally was aimed at demonstrating its readiness for both the state assembly and governorship polls.
Addressing the crowd, Chukwuma described the upcoming governorship election as a decisive moment for Anambra, accusing the current administration of failing on all fronts.
He urged residents to vote for YPP in the August 16 by-election and the November governorship poll, saying the party’s grassroots approach would deliver development across the state.
Chukwuma expressed concern over rising insecurity, citing the kidnap and killing of former Onitsha North 1 lawmaker, Justice Azuka. He called on voters to support Ndiwe, Azuka’s sister, to complete the late legislator’s projects.
“We are here to tell the people of Anambra that joy is coming,” Chukwuma said. “It is your vote that will remove bad governance from the state. Please, come out en masse and vote for YPP, a party that carries everybody along.”
Running mate Okagbue declared that YPP was prepared for victory, dismissing claims that the ruling party had no serious contenders. “No one can intimidate us by rhetoric. Paul Chukwuma will restore joy to Anambra by bringing back security and good governance,” he said.
The state party chairman, Cletus Obi, and Ndiwe also appealed to residents of Onitsha North 1 to deliver YPP at both the by-election and the governorship poll.
