Residents of Yola North are celebrating improved security and quality of life following the installation of 100 solar powered street lights by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

Community leaders from Jambutu and Malamre wards have commended the initiative, describing it as a transformative step toward enhancing safety in the area.

Leading the delegation were Sanusi Aliyu Muhammad, Ward Head of Jambutu, and Danladi Usman, Ward Head of Malamre, who commended the NEDC.

According to the leaders, the new street lights have significantly reduced incidents of phone snatching and petty theft, creating a safer environment for residents.

“The transformation brought by these solar street lights is evident,” said Sanusi Aliyu Muhammad. “We are grateful for the NEDC’s commitment to improving the quality of life in our community.”

Responding to the commendation, Barrister  Khalifa M. Lawan, NEDC’s Adamawa State Coordinator, applauded the communities for their recognition. He commended the leadership of the Commission’s Managing Director/CEO, Mohammad G. Alkali, for his strategic vision in driving community based projects across the region.

“Your gratitude motivates us to continue our efforts,” Lawan said, reaffirming the Commission’s dedication to further infrastructure and development initiatives in the North East.

In a related development, the Adamawa State Television (ATV) management team and the state chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) paid a courtesy visit to the NEDC office. Led by ATV General Manager Charity Kande Garba and NAWOJ State Chairperson, the media representatives lauded the Commission’s developmental strides and expressed interest in future collaboration.

The groups emphasized the need for greater awareness and media coverage of NEDC projects, stating that such partnerships could help amplify the impact of the Commission’s work.

With projects like the solar street lighting in Yola North, the NEDC, according to the communities, continues to cement its role as a key driver of reconstruction, rehabilitation, and development across the North East region.
