The Yobe State Government has intensified its drive for transparency and ethical governance with the launch of a comprehensive training programme for Directors in the State Civil Service, organised in partnership with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
The workshop, held in Kano, marks a renewed push by Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to strengthen compliance with national integrity laws and reinforce accountability across ministries, departments, and agencies.
Declaring the training open, Permanent Secretary for Manpower Development, Abbas Isah Bizi who represented the Head of Service praised Governor Buni for institutionalising professional discipline in the public service.
He described Directors as the “nerve centre of public administration” whose leadership is crucial to advancing the state’s integrity agenda.
In a keynote address delivered on his behalf, CCB Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, reaffirmed that asset declaration remains a mandatory constitutional duty for all public officers.
Director Akinola Aramide Atolagbe, who represented the Chairman, said the requirement is one of Nigeria’s strongest safeguards against corruption and an essential tool for promoting public trust.
He identified common challenges faced by public officers including procedural clarity, confidentiality concerns, and difficulties with digital submissions and said the workshop was designed to address these barriers to ensure accurate and timely compliance.
Dr. Bello urged Directors to “lead from the front,” noting that their decisions in areas such as procurement, budgeting, and human resource management have long-term consequences for the credibility of public institutions.
Earlier, Yobe CCB Director, Adamu Dandudu, expressed optimism that the training would strengthen ethical conduct and enhance service delivery across state ministries and agencies.
The initiative underscores the Buni administration’s continued commitment to institutional integrity, transparent governance, and a disciplined civil service.
