The 58th birthday celebration of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, took a distinctly humanitarian dimension at the weekend as he marked the occasion with healthcare interventions and the commissioning of projects at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, Taraba State.

Rather than a conventional birthday celebration centred on festivities, the occasion brought together political leaders, health professionals, government officials and members of the public to highlight the importance of practical interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing of citizens.

The celebration underscored the growing relevance of strategic partnerships in addressing critical healthcare needs, particularly in underserved communities.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, expressed satisfaction with Yilwatda’s decision to celebrate his birthday in the North-East, particularly in Taraba State.

Pate commended the APC national chairman for placing healthcare at the centre of his birthday activities, describing health as one of the critical areas capable of uniting Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious divides.

According to the minister, the health sector remains a fundamental pillar of national development, stressing that the strength and prosperity of any society depend largely on the health and productivity of its citizens.

He also commended the Taraba State Government, the National Assembly and the people of the state for their support and acceptance of the intervention.

The host of the celebration, Dr. Aisha Adamu Mohammed, said the choice of FMC Jalingo as the venue was a reflection of a growing commitment to medical excellence, improved healthcare delivery and service to humanity.

She noted that the interventions and commissioned projects constituted significant additions to existing efforts to strengthen the capacity of the medical centre and improve healthcare services in Taraba State.

The commissioning of the projects formed one of the major highlights of the occasion, alongside the cutting of Yilwatda’s 58th birthday cake.

Beyond the ceremonial activities, the event offered a broader reflection on the place of leadership and public service in contemporary Nigeria.

For Yilwatda, the celebration appeared to go beyond the traditional trappings of a birthday anniversary. It was presented as an opportunity to channel personal milestones into interventions capable of leaving a lasting impact on the lives of others.

The initiative therefore reinforced a central message of the celebration: that leadership should transcend positions, titles and political affiliations and ultimately be measured by its ability to deliver tangible benefits to the people.

As Yilwatda marked 58, his birthday celebration in Jalingo became, in essence, a statement of service, giving and commitment to humanity—turning a personal milestone into an avenue for strengthening healthcare and touching lives.
