Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a “transactional politician” who undermines the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the platform that propelled his political career.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor addressed what he called Wike’s “bombastic and contradictory” remarks during a recent media appearance. Mohammed accused Wike of prioritizing personal ambition over loyalty and collective interests, branding him a divisive figure in Nigerian politics.
“Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP. Yet, he gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him,” the statement read.
Governor Mohammed dismissed Wike’s claims about their lack of personal friendship, arguing that governance should focus on competence, vision, and results, rather than personal relationships.
He contrasted his record of achievements in Bauchi State and efforts to strengthen the PDP with what he described as Wike’s “double game” of aligning with both the PDP and APC for political advantage.
“Governance is not built on personal friendships but on competence, vision, and the ability to deliver results,” Mohammed emphasized.
The Bauchi governor also accused Wike of hypocrisy, criticizing his public endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led administration while maintaining membership in the PDP.
He highlighted Wike’s advocacy for the APC’s re-election in 2027 as contradictory to his purported loyalty to the PDP.
“Wike’s shameless oscillation between PDP and APC undermines the moral fabric of democracy,” the statement asserted.
Governor Mohammed described Wike’s tenure as FCT minister as characterized by controversy and divisiveness rather than effective governance.
He accused his of reducing public service to a “theater of absurdity” through his combative leadership style, alienating stakeholders, and creating unnecessary tensions.
“Instead of using his platform to unite and inspire, Wike has reduced public service to a theater of absurdity,” he said, adding that even APC members were reportedly disillusioned with Wike’s conduct.
In contrast, Senator Bala Mohammed positioned himself as a leader committed to strengthening democracy and uplifting the people of Bauchi State.
He reiterated his principled stance on national issues, such as his opposition to President Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills, which he argued were focused on fostering inclusive governance and accountability.
The governor urged Nigerians to recognize what he described as Wike’s “duplicity,” portraying him as a politician driven by self-interest rather than public service.
“Wike’s antics may grab headlines, but they offer little substance. His betrayal of the PDP and divisive politics reveal a man prioritizing personal gain over public service,” the statement read.
