Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking his first official leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President will use the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal aimed at strengthening his capacity for continued national service.

The statement said the leave would also provide Shettima with an opportunity to review the administration’s ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for upcoming responsibilities as the Federal Government intensifies implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since taking office, the Vice President has played a key role in coordinating and supervising strategic government initiatives, particularly in the areas of economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

He has also chaired meetings of the National Economic Council, comprising the governors of the 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior public officials, where policies affecting the economy and citizens’ welfare are discussed.

The statement further noted that Shettima has represented President Tinubu at several international and regional engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.

According to the statement, the Vice President remains committed to supporting President Tinubu’s administration and will resume his official duties at the end of the two-week leave with renewed energy and dedication.
