In the aftermath of a deadly attack that claimed over 37 lives in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel S. Bretet, has called on community leaders to encourage residents to stay in secure areas and cooperate with security agencies.
The appeal was delivered in a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, James Leshen, following the Commissioner’s on-the-spot visit to the affected communities for an assessment.
The attack, which occurred last Saturday, has left the area in deep mourning. Authorities believe it was carried out by suspected armed herders.
Condemning the violence in strong terms, Commissioner Bretet announced an immediate review of the security structure in the area, with additional personnel deployed to restore order and bolster public confidence.
“Our priority is to restore peace and uphold the law. Anyone inciting unrest or violence will face full legal consequences,” the Commissioner warned.
He also stressed the importance of unity and urged community leaders to assist in calming tensions and fostering reconciliation among residents.
Reassuring citizens of the police command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, Bretet said that robust security measures are being put in place to return normalcy to the affected communities.
In response, Chairman of the Karim-Lamido Local Government Council, Bitrus Danjos, commended the police for their swift intervention and pledged continuous collaboration. “We remain committed to sharing intelligence and supporting all security efforts within the state,” he stated.
