The Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced a waste evacuation exercise across the six Area Councils of the territory as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and safer environment.
The exercise is being carried out in line with the directive of the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, and the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for a cleaner and greener Federal Capital Territory.
The Coordinator of STDD, Hon. Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, disclosed this in a statement, saying he had directed the Acting Director of Environmental Services, Engr. Hassan Dogondaji, and his team to intensify the waste evacuation exercise.
According to him, the exercise has so far been carried out in Karu, Karshi and Kurudu, while operations are continuing in Orozo, Jikwoyi and other locations across the six Area Councils.
Abdulkadir urged residents to support the exercise by disposing of their waste responsibly and keeping their surroundings clean.
He also appealed to residents to keep drainages clear and desist from dumping refuse on roads and waterways, particularly as part of measures to mitigate the risk of flooding.
The STDD Coordinator stressed that maintaining a clean and safe environment requires the collective efforts of both the government and residents.
A clean and safe environment, as made known by hin, is a collective responsibility.
