The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers over the abduction of a four-year-old boy in Ngballang community, Numan Local Government Area of the state, in a case that has drawn concern among residents over the safety of children in local communities.
Police authorities disclosed that the incident was first reported on March 2, 2026, when a resident of Ngballang, Umar Ibrahim, approached the Numan Police Division to report that his son, Ramadan, had gone missing after leaving home to play on March 1.
According to the police, the child failed to return home that evening, prompting frantic searches by family members and concerned residents within the community. Despite their efforts, the boy could not be found in the immediate days following his disappearance.
The situation took a more alarming turn when the father reportedly received a phone call from an unknown individual who claimed responsibility for the child’s disappearance. The caller informed him that his son had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of ₦800,000 in exchange for the child’s release.
Following the report, operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command attached to the Numan Division launched an investigation aimed at tracking down those behind the crime.
Their efforts eventually led to the arrest of two suspects identified as 19-year-old Sadiq Ali and 23-year-old Shitu Umar.
Police said both suspects are residents of Lafiya in Lamurde Local Government Area of the state.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping.
The police command has since transferred the case to its Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Speaking on the development in a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, reiterated the commitment of the police to safeguarding lives and property across Adamawa State.
He assured residents that the command would continue to intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminal activities in the state.
Nguroje also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
The incident has renewed calls for increased community vigilance and strengthened collaboration between residents and law enforcement agencies to prevent crimes, particularly those targeting vulnerable members of society such as children.
