The Plateau State Government has explained that the N10.11 billion reportedly spent on travel and transport in the first six months of 2026 covered activities across the state’s public service and did not represent expenditure on Governor Caleb Mutfwang or the Government House.
The government said the figure was an aggregate expenditure covering Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), tertiary institutions, the judiciary, the Plateau State House of Assembly and statutory personnel-related entitlements.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, in response to a recent analytical report on the state’s expenditure.
Ramnap said the state government remained committed to transparency, accountability, prudence and responsible management of public resources.
According to her, the largest components of the expenditure included activities of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, leave passage entitlements for public servants and training-related travels by various MDAs.
She added that other expenditures covered the overseas training of Plateau State University lecturers, activities of the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, judiciary-related travels and approved official travel expenses of the State House of Assembly.
The commissioner also listed the government’s sponsorship of 200 students on scholarship to India, medical assistance to citizens abroad and other official engagements as part of the expenditure.
She said the Mutfwang administration attached importance to the training and retraining of public servants as part of efforts to address manpower gaps, strengthen institutions and equip personnel with the skills required for effective service delivery.
On the governor’s foreign travels during the period under review, the government said Mutfwang undertook only three international trips between January and June 2026.
It said the governor travelled to the United States in January at the invitation of organisers to attend the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, where he also explored opportunities for strategic partnerships beneficial to Nigeria and Plateau State.
According to the statement, Mutfwang travelled to the United Kingdom in March as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s delegation and returned to the country in June to participate in an international dialogue on multi-faith coexistence.
The government said the governor used the trips to pursue partnerships and explore investment opportunities, particularly in tourism and other critical sectors.
It added that the engagements were aimed at attracting investments, expanding economic opportunities, strengthening partnerships and improving the living conditions of Plateau residents.
The state government assured citizens that it would continue to provide accurate and verifiable information on its financial activities and ensure that public resources were deployed judiciously to achieve measurable development outcomes.
It reiterated its commitment to financial discipline, transparency, accountability and responsible governance, assuring residents that the administration would remain open and responsive in managing the affairs of the state.
