Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially commissioned the newly upgraded Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, describing it as a significant step forward in the federal government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.
The inauguration ceremony drew a large and enthusiastic crowd as residents, students, and community leaders gathered to welcome the First Lady. She was joined by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, Senator Tinubu commended the Gombe State Government for laying the foundation for the hospital’s transformation through strategic investments in healthcare infrastructure. She noted that the upgrade of the facility reflects the Tinubu administration’s broader agenda to improve access to quality health services nationwide.
“This hospital is a symbol of what visionary and purposeful leadership can accomplish,” the First Lady said. “It not only improves the quality of healthcare in this region but also exemplifies President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the well-being of all Nigerians.”
She also expressed confidence in Gombe’s continued development trajectory, citing Governor Yahaya’s passion for public service and alignment with national development goals.
“I believe Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who clearly has the interests of his people at heart, will continue to partner with us to uplift lives and expand access to opportunities,” she added.
Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, traditional institutions, and religious leaders to foster peace, unity, and grassroots development. She urged leaders across sectors to support the administration’s nation-building efforts.
As part of her visit, the First Lady paid homage to the Emir of Akko, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, at his palace in Kumo. In honour of her contributions to national development and her commitment to community engagement, the Emir conferred on her the traditional title of “Queen of Akko.”
Describing the commissioning of FMC Kumo as “historic,” the Emir said the upgraded hospital would greatly enhance healthcare access and outcomes for the people of Gombe State.
In his remarks, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, member representing Akko Federal Constituency, praised President Tinubu for prioritizing infrastructural and social development in the state. He reaffirmed the loyalty of Gombe residents to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Gombe remains one of the strongest APC states in Nigeria,” Hon. Kumo said. “We are ready to support President Tinubu for a second term in 2027 to continue the good work he has started.”
The newly inaugurated FMC Kumo is expected to provide critical medical services to residents of Akko and surrounding areas, easing the burden on other healthcare facilities in the state.
