Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill establishing the Federal University of Sports in Afuze, Edo State.
Describing the move as a “victory for the people of Edo State,” Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the new institution would expand access to quality higher education and foster intellectual and socio-economic growth in the region.
“The establishment of the Federal University of Sports is a testament to President Tinubu’s dedication to advancing education in Nigeria.
This institution will provide opportunities for our youths and serve as a catalyst for economic development in our state and the nation at large.”Okpebholo stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government to ensure the university’s smooth take-off and sustainable growth.
He also acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders, including the National Assembly, traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society organizations, in making the project a reality.
“This university is a dream come true for many generations of Edo indigenes,” he said. “It will be a hub for research, innovation, and the development of skilled graduates who will contribute meaningfully to society.”
Governor Okpebholo assured the people of Edo State that his administration would work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies to ensure the timely provision of infrastructure and resources for the institution. He also called on citizens to support the initiative for its successful implementation.
“We are immensely grateful to President Tinubu for this invaluable gift to the people of Edo State,” adding that, “This university will undoubtedly transform our educational landscape and create a brighter future for generations to come.”
