Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on public office holders to prioritize the welfare of the people above personal interests in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking on Wednesday when playing host to the leadership of the newly elected executive of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Delta State Chapter, the Governor attributed poor governance to the lack of fear of God among some leaders.
Oborevwori, who credited his administration’s achievements over the past 19 months to divine guidance, pledged to continue putting God first in governing the state.
He also congratulated the new PFN executive and assured them of his administration’s commitment to working with the Christian body to advance the MORE Agenda.
“As an administration, we are grateful to God for the successes we have recorded so far. It is by divine wisdom that we have been able to judiciously allocate resources to meet competing needs and make the right decisions,” Oborevwori stated.
He emphasized that public service is a call to serve the people and not for personal gain, warning that leaders who prioritize their interests over the people’s welfare are bound to fail.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and pledged continued collaboration with stakeholders to move Delta State forward.
He also urged the PFN and the church to keep praying for the state and the nation, emphasizing the need for divine intervention to address the country’s challenges.
Responding, the PFN Chairman, Bishop Abos Willie, said the visit was to introduce the new executive and congratulate the Governor on his recognition as Governor of the Year by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television.
Bishop Willie commended Oborevwori’s zero tolerance for substandard projects and urged him to sustain efforts to eliminate abandoned projects in the state.
He also outlined the PFN’s focus on promoting the value of the Holy Bible, religious harmony, and integrity in Christianity, seeking the state government’s support in achieving these goals.
