The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of seven journalists from Gombe State who lost their lives in a tragic road traffic accident.
In a statement issued on behalf of the National Executive Council (NEC) and the entire NUJ family nationwide, the Union described the incident as a devastating loss to the journalism profession in Gombe State and across the country.
The NUJ said the deceased journalists were dedicated professionals who served the public with courage, integrity and commitment, noting that their untimely deaths have created a significant void within the media community.
The Union extended its heartfelt condolences to the Gombe State Council of the NUJ, as well as the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased journalists. It assured the bereaved of its solidarity during the period of mourning and grief.
While praying for the eternal rest of the departed journalists, the NUJ also called on authorities to intensify efforts toward improving road safety and promoting responsible driving, stressing that journalists are often exposed to road risks in the course of their professional duties.
The statement was signed by the NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahya, who urged Nigerians to remember the fallen journalists for their service and dedication to the profession.
The Union concluded by praying that God grants the families and loved ones of the deceased the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
