The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 28-year-old man accused of defrauding multiple victims of ₦9.8 million in Adamawa State.
The suspect was apprehended on September 2 in Timbokum village, located in Ganye Local Government Area, following a complaint lodged at the NSCDC divisional office in Mubi.
In a statement issued in Yola on Tuesday, NSCDC spokesperson Nyako Baba confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect is currently in custody and will face prosecution after investigations are completed.
Adamawa State NSCDC Commandant, Idris Bande, revealed that at least nine individuals fell victim to the scam. The suspect reportedly enticed them with fraudulent promises of political appointments, lucrative job offers, and opportunities for international travel.
“Records show that the suspect accessed contacts of prominent individuals in the state, which he exploited to present convincing but false offers to his victims,” said Bande.
Preliminary investigations show that the suspect refunded ₦1.1 million to some of the victims. The command, however, said efforts are ongoing to recover the rest of the funds and fully assess the extent of the suspect’s operations.
The NSCDC also announced that its investigation is being expanded to identify any accomplices who may have been involved in the scheme.
Commandant Bande called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly. He reiterated the corps’ commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring that those who engage in criminal acts are brought to justice.
